It’s 2:22 am. I need to wake up in less than four hours, but I can’t stop searching, scrolling, and reading. A new spark has lit a flame in me and there’s no blowing it out.
This isn’t a story that’s limited to one moment… this is a regular happening in my life. When I get an idea in my head, I need to read everything on the subject and do it. Now. Any obligation that gets in the way of my new obssession becomes extremely agitating: making dinner, doing dishes, the eight-hour interruption of a day job and, worst of all, sleep… ugh!
The firey petals in the background of these photos makes me think of my many passions; they might burn at different temperatures and dim down sometimes, but my life will always be filled with their fire. I’ll never be able to focus on only one, nor will I ever blow the others out.
Photography and writing have always burned inside of me in various forms. Sometimes, though, I go off on little – ok big – tangents. I have every supply you might need for scrapbooking, jewerly-making, beading, drawing, painting, and now nail art!
What are these numbered posts all about? Read the introduction to my Photo & 100 Words project and find out!

A girly get together to practice my new nail art skills for Valentine’s Day!
Hey Rebekah, the more I read your blog, the more I realize we seem to have quite a bit in common. No, not necessarily the nail art 🙂 but definitely the various passions that become obsessions and eat up every thinking moment of a day. Then, once explored, they can be put on the back burner for another new passion. But obviously, photography in one form or another is your overriding passion, as it should be – your work is so beautiful. My favourite photo? The first one. Because the flower has that wonderful deep-coloured centre, the petals seem more defined and the orange blurs just that bit more bright, giving a wonderful punch of colour.
I could say the same about your blog, my fellow Trekkie! (oh wait no one here knows that little nerdy secret about me haha)
I think that was my favorite as well, but I always ask my boyfriend for his opinion and he didn’t like that one as much. Thanks for letting me know your thoughts!
Did you read Melissa Dinwiddie’s post about the stove analogy? I’d be lying if I said it didn’t help to justify my spontaneous interests and all the money I dump into them. http://melissadinwiddie.com/how-your-life-like-stove/
Hey Rebekah,
Awesome post. As a fiction author, poet, songwriter, music producer/engineer, fine art photographer, etc. There just isn’t time in the day for everything and usually it’s sleep that takes the hit.
I always tell people my perfect day job would be some kind of sleep experiment. That way I wouldn’t have to waste my personal time on getting rest. 🙂
Hmmm. Trekkies, huh? I’m reading this the day after my wife and I most recently lamented them getting rid of the Star Trek rides and exhibition from Las Vegas. We used to go there every time we were in town. It was a Trekkies’ dream…
Keep up the great work!
Chris
LMAO I love that Chris… I’m going to look into the sleep experiment industry for a job now. Those jobs have to exist, and I’m a perfect candidate, because when I do sleep I sleep like the dead! I’m sure it wouldn’t be full time though =(
Thanks for stopping by, if I hear of any new Star Trek rides I’ll let you know 😉
